Hawaii Green Sea Turtle
Indonesia. Marine animals and plants spread slowly from those areas, moving from island to island or along the shores of continents. Some even managed to cross the ocean drifting as a larvae in the ocean's currents, until finding a new home and helping to create the paradise we now know as Hawai'i. Crossing the oceans was just the first step in the arduous journey to become the beautiful creatures we appreciate today. Having arrived in Hawaiian waters, these species went through a process of developing and adapting to a new ecosystem. Many perished due to lack of food and an unfavorable habitat. The species that survived procreated with other species, therefore giving birth to a series of unique species found only in majestic Hawai'i. The occurrence of a unique species in a limited geographical area is called endemism.
Hawai'i is also home to the migration patterns Humpback whales. These magnificent beasts are commonly seen in the winter months from our shores, and are easily heard on many of our dives. These Humpback whales come to the warm waters of Hawai'i to breed, calve, and nurse their young.
