Hawaii is a wonderful place to Dive and watch marine life, not only because of warm, clear water, but because 25% of the Hawaiian fish species are endemic, meaning they are only found in Hawaii.
Hawaii Green Sea TurtleNot many places in the world compare with Hawaii in numbers of unique species, and none has more. It's estimated that 600 different species of tropical fish live here. Scientists believe that most marine life, even those of the Caribbean, originated near to what is now The Philippines and
Indonesia. Marine animals and plants spread slowly from those areas, moving from island to island or along the shores of continents. Some even managed to cross the ocean drifting as a larvae in the ocean's currents, until one day finding a new home. Crossing the oceans was just the first step, having arrived in Hawaiian waters, these species went through a process of developing and adapting to a new ecosystem, and many perished due to lack of food and not a favorable habitat. The ones that survived procreated with other species, therefore giving birth to a unique species only found in Hawaii. The occurrence of a unique species in a limited geographical area is called endemism.
Hawaii is also home to the Humpback whales, where they are commonly seen in the winter months from shore and easily being heard from any dives. These Humpback whales come to the warm waters of Hawaii to breed, calve, and nurse their young.
