The group of Hawaiian islands is the most isolated island chain in the world. There are many events at the Banzai Pipeline and one held at Waimea Bay known as the "Eddie". This event is dedicated to North Shore's first lifeguard and legendary surfer, Eddie Aikau. In the summer months, The North Shore becomes calm and the ocean resembles more of a blue lagoon. This attracts scuba divers and snorkelers from all over the island to observe the rich underwater ecosystem of the Pupukea Marine Sanctuary District. This protected environment makes this region one of the best shore dive sites of North America.
